How does invitation printing work?

Here are a few commonly asked questions about the process of working with DWRI Letterpress on invitations. This is only a starting point, so please reach out with any other questions, to get a quote started, or to connect with our design team.

When should I start the invitation printing process?

Ideally with a save the date! Regardless of what your needs are for the day, please consider reaching out to us as soon as you can. While we can work on a compressed timeline of a few weeks, many clients engage our studio a year in advance. More on rush printing below!

Do you charge for consultations?

We do not! Letterpress printing is a unique art form and we're happy to spend time together to make sure that you know the best way to utilize our shop. Much of our work is custom and the better we know each other, the better the process will be.

Can I visit the studio?

Yes! We are currently accepting wedding consultation meetings in person in our shop (with masks on). We will ask you to keep guests to four at most. Prefer a distanced meeting? We're happy to host a Zoom call, phone call and send samples.

How long will my invitations take?

Suites can take between 2 to 4 weeks to print. This can depend on the intricacy of your pieces as well as what else is happening in the shop. If we’re designing, expect that process to take between 2 to 3 weeks.

Oops, I need to send everything out ASAP!

Letterpress is an involved process but we do offer rush services (as timing allows) for an additional fee. Call our shop to see how soon we can get something done for you.

How much will my invitations cost?

This can depend on how many pieces you are printing as well as how many sets you are ordering. Multiple colors, thicker papers, and foil stamping can all add to cost though we have options to include substitue digital printing as well to help reduce production cost. Suites can start around $10 per suite though it's best to contact us for a custom quote to start your planning.

Will I need to put down a deposit?

Yes, we generally ask for a 25% deposit to schedule in any design work or printing. The remainder is due upon pickup or before we ship. Day-of pieces are billed in one lump sum. We will invoice via email and can accept cash, credit card, check or ACH. Please contact us if you would prefer an alternate billing schedule.

How does your design team work?

We’re a team of printers and designers who can work with you to make your wedding vision a reality. As printers, we know how to design to best highlight the letterpress printing process and maximum your budget. We can adapt one of our existing templates or create a custom suite all your own. Our team will ask to meet with you in person for a consultation or speak on the phone if possible so that we can get a sense of your sensibilities and preferences. We’ll deliver two to three directions of the invitation and refine in up to three revision passes (more available upon request at a fee). Additional pieces will be designed once the invitations or save the dates have been finalized. We’ll ask you for a plain text version of the language you’d like on your invites (via email, word processing document or google drive document).

I'm a designer and have files ready to print, can I work with you?

Yes! Contact us for a file prep tips or to share your file for a quote. Reach out as soon as you like, we might have some suggestions to help with printing that are easier to address before you get too far along in the process.

What about envelopes?

We offer printing on envelopes including foil and digital options. We can also digitally address each envelope with your guest's contact information as an alternative to calligraphy.

Can you create folded or perforated pieces?

Yes and we can also die cut invitations into specific shapes.

Can you print in other languages?

Yes! We’ve worked in multiple Hebrew faces, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Dutch and more!

What papers do you have available? Can I use colored papers or envelopes?

We carry a few cotton paper stocks in house that are popular for invitations. They are available in multiple thicknesses and shades of white. We also have access to multiple colored ranges of paper stocks and envelopes. Name your wedding colors and we can help locate the perfect paper choices for your suite.

Now that I have the invitations printed, what's next?

We strongly suggest you ask the Post Office to hand-cancel your invitation suite (we can help walk you through that process). This means that your invitations will be sorted by hand and not machine so there's less chance of any scuffing or damage to your envelope. If you're looking to save time, our team can assemble and mail your invitations for you.

What about printing for the wedding day?

We're happy to keep the printing party going for your day-of paper needs. Menus, programs, table numbers and more can be a great way to carry the details of your invitation suite through to the wedding. And don't forget about thank you cards!
