This Web site was designed and mostly produced in one day. The idea was simple: Dan would print business cards, postcards and other stationery for designer friend John Caserta in one day, and John would design Dan's site in a day. Collaborative printing meets collaborative web design. Why the deadline? Taking on a new project generally means adding one more item to your procrastination list, and then its the back and forth email exchanges, proofs and more proofs, finished project (yay!), and eventually, payment. This workflow seems unavoidable, predictable, boring. Now, barter is great - but the trouble with trading labor for labor is the trade jobs always get push back behind some major new rush. So we got together one morning, set type and wrote code, printed and photographed, argued about type sizes and image formats, and by three in the morning, we were done!. Code retouches and trim work to the printed matter were done after that first visit, but for the most part, you're looking at one day's work. And the best part, making the hand move on the opening page - try it! (now he's going to kill me when he sees this text going down off the page) - Thanks, John! |
